A photo taken in Paris by Willy Ronis (1910-2009) during the popular celebration of the Bastile Day organized on 14 July 1936 by the Front populaire government (news footage) is often associated with the Front populaire.
The photo features a tricolor flag charged with a Phrygian cap, as the symbol of liberty coined during the French Revolution. In the TV program Le Front populaire, 1936. Willy Ronis, the photographer explains that he was attracted by the small girl wearing a Phrygian cap, sitting on her father's shoulders and raising the fist. He does not say anything about the flag.
The photo, the first Ronis managed to sell and which ignited his long career, was first published in Regards, a magazine dedicated to photojournalism founded in 1932 by the Parti communiste français.
